Police suspect arsonists in spate of grass fires

Police are warning that grass fires being set off in South West Scotland could lead to more serious consequences.

There are reports of up to eight fires being set off in the past five days, some near to homes, in Kelloholm and Sanquhar.

Arsonists set off more grass fires in South West Scotland

A number of grass fires have been started in Dumfries and Galloway over the Easter period.

Police say that the latest were set alight last night at on waste ground between Glenwhargen Avenue in Kelloholm and the River Nith.

The second was on waste ground between Blackaddie Road Sanquhar Police Station.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact Police Scotland on the new non emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
