The Hawick Cornet was chosen in the town's traditional Picking Night last night (8th May).
Chris Ritson was named as the man that will carry out ceremonial duties during the Common Riding Festival this year.
It is a huge honour for any man in the town to hold the role.
"I feel unbelievable, it is what I have wanted all my life so it is great, I am chuffed to bits. I am looking forward to carrying the flag during the Common Riding".
