MSPs back same-sex marriage bill

MSPs have backed a bill to legalise same-sex marriage in Scotland at its first stage after a free vote at Holyrood.

It passed the first hurdle by 98 votes to 15, with 5 abstentions.

Some religious groups are opposed, but ministers said it was the right thing to do.
