Police have identified a 15-year-old boy who was shot in Ulpha as Edward Gabbert.
Edward died at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
"He was on farm land in the Ulpha area, with two other men, when an incident occurred and he was shot.
"He was taken to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, where despite the best efforts of medical staff, he sadly died."
“This was a tragic incident that has shocked the school. Edward was a popular student, mature, immensely loyal to his friends and a real Cumbrian. A true individual and lover of the great outdoors, Edward always knew his own mind and it’s fair to say his passions lay outside school, but he always had great relationships with the staff at school who knew him. As special assembly will be held on Monday to remember Edward and all our thoughts are with his family at this time.”
