Parts of the north-west including southern Cumbrian are set to to be buffeted by winds of up to 100mph as the country is gripped by the latest band of bad weather.
The Met Office has issued a "red" weather warning for exceptionally strong winds this evening.
In addition, large waves could affect some coastal areas, the Met Office warned.
