This week is National Carers Week, a time when awareness is raised about the struggles faced by carers all over the country.
There are 6.5 million carers across the UK. Six out of ten of us will become a carer at some point in our lives.
That unpaid care saves the state £119 billion each year.
It's not just adults that are affected. 175,000 young people across the country care for a relative.
Shani Brooks from Carlisle is one of them. She provides full-time care for her dad.
Amy Dunsmuir went to meet them.
