Swimmers and pet owners have been warned after traces of blue-green algae were spotted in Windermere.

Toxins from the algae can kill wild animals, livestock and pets. Lake District National Park Authority say the algae can cause rashes on humans after skin contact and illness if swallowed.

The lake plays host to the Great North Swim which begins on Friday.
