A week of celebrations in Dumfries kicks off tonight with the start of the Guid Nychburris festival.
The new cornet will be crowned in a traditional ceremony at the midsteeple, before he begins his duties. Throughout the week the cornet and his principals will visit schools and nursing homes, and host dances and suppers.
The festivities end with the riding of the marches on Saturday, where thousands of people will line the streets to welcome the cavalcade through the town.
