A planning order, which is the first of its kind to be introduced in the country, has been passed in Cockermouth following a public vote.
Nearly 800 people voted in favour of the Neighbourhood Development Order in the town, which will mean certain types of planning permission will now automatically be granted.
The full breakdown of votes are as follows:
- Yes – 772
- No – 496
- A total of 6577 voted - which works out as a turnout of 19.3%
