Lord Steel backs Farron for Lib Dem leadership

Lord Steel Credit: PA

Lord David Steel has told ITV Border News that he would back Tim Farron as the new leader of the Liberal Democrats.

He said he believed that the Westmorland and Lonsdale MP would be a left-to-centre leader.

The Liberal Democrat peer, from Selkirk, went on to say that he never expected such a large loss for the Lib Dems.

When asked about the possibility of another Independence Referendum, he said that Nicola Sturgeon had made it clear that this election was about the whole of the UK and not just Scotland. He said he'd therefore hope that David Cameron would represent the whole nation during his next term.
