A Cumbria Police sergeant has scored the winning try to secure victory for England's police rugby union team, over Ireland.

Sergeant Lee Brumpton, who is based in Carlisle, scored a try in the last five minutes against the Ireland Combined Services in a 25-22 victory in Belfast.

The victory came on the same weekend that the full England team won the Six Nations, having beaten Wales and seen Scotland topple France.

I am delighted to have been able to make an important contribution in such a tight contest. Our team were putting plenty of late pressure on the Irish and thankfully I was able to capitalise on the opportunity and do Cumbria proud.”
