Civil War of 1645 recreated in the Borders

Thirlestane Castle in Lauder turned back time this weekend to 1645, to re-enact the Civil War.

The battle depicts a similar skirmish that happened near Selkirk in the 17th century.

Soldiers, muskets, pikes and drums came to life in drill displays.

There's a lot of fun, around, it's like being a big kid, so you get to do lots of fun things, but the serious angle is that people understand their own heritage, their own history, their own culture and perhaps, dispel a few myths about how people were."
