£100million investment in Cumbrian hospitals announced

Up to £50million will be spent on both the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven and Carlisle's Cumberland Infirmary, to support huge improvements.

The money will be spend on a new cancer care centre, major refurbishments and building work.

Trudy Harrison, MP for Copeland, has praised the major investment for West Cumberland Hospital, saying it is 'fantastic' news for patients.

The funding will help to deliver faster diagnosis for conditions including cancer, easier access to mental health services, expansions of A&E departments, shorter waiting times for operations, and more services in GP surgeries.

“There has been huge progress in improving patient care and this funding will help to secure the highest quality, most compassionate patient care anywhere in the world.”
