A fire which badly damaged a van parked in Dumfries is being treated as suspicious by the police.

Police Scotland believe a fire which enveloped a Ford Transit van in the small car park opposite Sunderries Road in Sandside, Dumfries, in the early hours of this morning was started deliberately.

The fire was discovered at around 2am this morning when a loud bang was heard from the area. The Fire and Rescue Service were alerted and extinguished the fire.

Constable Lawrence Nelson at Dumfries said: “We have had reports about a group of people hanging around the area of Sunderries Road/Stakeford Street earlier in the evening and we want to hear from anyone who can help us in this investigation.”
