8 thousand swimmers took part in the 11th Great North Swim in Windermere.

It's Europe's biggest open water swimming event.

Participants enjoyed a balmy 20 degrees in the water.

It was the first year the event was based at Brockhole having previously been at Low Wood Bay.

Distances ranged from 250 metres to the 10k marathon swim.

Some famous names took part during the 3-day event including Blue Peter presenter Lindsey Russell and double Commonwealth Champion Caitlyn McClatchey.

Amongst the charities that benefited from individual fundraising efforts was the Macmillan cancer charity, over 500 swimmers raised an estimated £155,000.

It’s been an incredible weekend and we’re delighted with the success of our first event at Brockhole. We estimate around 30,000 swimmers and spectators have visited the site over the last three days to enjoy a range of brilliant activities in the sunshine.”
