Detectives are continuing to question a 51 year old man over the assault of a four year old boy in Mansfield. He was found yesterday lunchtime in Frederick Street. He is being treated for his injuries, which are believed to be stab wounds, at the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham. The boy's parents are with him at hospital, where he is described as conscious and stable.

We believe this is an isolated incident and we do not think any other parties are involved. We will be interviewing the man in custody later today.Specialist support is being provided for the boy and his family, while house-to-house enquiries and a full forensic examination of a property in Frederick Street will be carried out today.
