Two strikes by teaching staff are taking place in the region.
Teachers at Swinton Comprehensive School in Rotherham have walked out in a row over the proposed compulsory redundancy of one teacher. The Headteacher says the school has seen a drop in funding because of a fall in the numbers of students. As a result 8 posts need to go. All but one of those has been resolved through voluntary redundancy and staff volunteering to reduce the number of days they work. The school is closed today.
Seven members of support staff at the Heath Training and Development Centre in Halifax are also on strike. It is because of compulsory redundancies.
