Police murder anniversary
It is the 20th anniversary of the shooting of Glenn Goodman.
He was shot dead on the A64 outside Tadcaster on June 7 1992. The 37-year-old, a Special Constable, was on one of his first patrols with a regular officer, Sandy Kelly. They carried out a routine check on a car parked in the town and followed it to the dual carriageway, where they were shot by Paul Magee.
PC Kelly survived, but Special Constable Goodman later died. Following a massive police search Paul Magee was jailed for life, but in 2000 he was freed, along with his accomplice, Michael O'Brien, as part of the Good Friday Agreement.
A memorial service for Special Constable Goodman will be held next week.
