The teenager was taken to hospital in the early hours of Saturday morning and died from his injuries last night.
Six people, aged between 16 and 39, were arrested in connection with the incident in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "Police have launched a murder inquiry after an 18-year-old Barnsley man died at the weekend.
"The 18-year-old was at a party on Pleasant View in Cudworth, Barnsley, on Friday night into the early hours of Saturday 23 June, where he sustained significant burns on his body at around 2.20am."
The spokeswoman said the man died at Pinderfields Hospital at around 11.40pm last night.
The six people arrested on Saturday were questioned on suspicion of attempted murder. A 16-year-old girl was released due to insufficient evidence and the remaining five were bailed.
