Tweeting policeman

PC Ed Rogerson posting on the beat in Harrogate Photo:

Acting Sergeant Ed Rogerson is using Twitter to interact with the community while he is on the beat.Since signing up last November, the 28-year-old has more than 73,000 views of the videos he posts online about various crime issues., and 800 followers on Twitter. His tweets range from weather warnings, reports of missing cats and wild deer to tales of how he caught two vandals.

The bicycle-riding bobby's postings from his beat in the small town of Starbeck, near Harrogate, North Yorks, are proving so popular he's gaining fans as far away as America and Australia. He even has a fan in Iran.

The number of criminal offences in Starbeck is down 40 per cent on 12 months ago and PC Rogerson is convinced his daily tweets - short messages limited to a maximum of 140 characters - have played a big part.

Pc Rogerson - who uses the twitter sign-on hotelalpha9, his force radio call sign - first realised the power of the internet to crack crime when he began using Facebook in a bid to catch vandals operating on his patch. An online tip-off led to the arrest of two teenagers.

Here are just some of his Tweets:
