Newsquest journalists in York may go on strike

Journalists from local newspaper publisher Newsquest are expected to go on strike today in York.

The journalists who are part of the National Union of Journalists are holding a 'compulsory meeting' at 10am today in response to their pay being frozen for a third year.

The York division walked out for a day last month after being told they would be docked a full day’s pay for a ten-minute union meeting.

We are nearing the end of yet another year which has seen journalists in York struggle to make ends meet while Newsquest pleads poverty despite making sizeable profits for American shareholders and demands more and more of its employees with no financial reward
