Soccer Aid 2012 has raised more than £4.5m since last year when the biennial celebrity football match took place at Old Trafford in Manchester.

The funds raised through Soccer Aid has particularly helped strengthen health systems in Chad so more children can be screened for malnutrition and be reached with life-saving care. The country recently went through a period of drought and food shortages leaving children hungry and malnourished.

Former England goalkeeper David Seaman, from Rotherham, and former Sheffield Wednesday player Des Walker, are just some of the celebrities connected to our region who participated in the charity event.

All the money raised by the event was matched by the UK Government.
