Officers search for missing woman

Specially trained officers are carrying out detailed searches on open land in Helmsley in North Yorkshire for missing woman Barbara Colling. They will be focusing their efforts along roads and footpaths from Newgate Bank along the B1257 back towards Helmsley and out to the the Cleveland Way.

Barbara was last seen walking along the B1257 near Abbotts Hag at around 9.30am on Monday January 28 2013. Rescue teams, a specialist tracker dog and air support units have so far been involved in the search to find her. Barbara is described as white, 5ft 2in tall, of medium build with medium length blonde hair. She was last seen wearing a navy blue jacket, blue trousers, a black woollen hat with ear flaps and black boots. It is thought Barbara was carrying a black rucksack.

"Specialist search teams are out in and around Helmsley again today as we remain fully focused on trying to find Barbara.

Her family are obviously very concerned for her welfare and want her back as soon as possible.

Barbara has been missing for a few days now and the public can really help with the effort to find her by reporting sightings of anyone matching her description.

I would also ask residents to check their sheds and other outbuildings in case Barbara has taken shelter somewhere.”

– Inspector Andy Everitt, North Yorkshire Police

Inspector Everitt urged people to look out for any discarded clothing and urged the public to particularly look out for Barbara at churches in the area.

"We know that Barbara likes churches and likes to visit them, so I would ask people who either work in churches or are regular visitors to be especially vigilant at this time."
