Grantham is mourning the loss of its most famous daughter, Baroness Margaret Hilda Thatcher. Margaret and her older sister Muriel were raised in the flat above their father’s grocery shop on North Parade, Grantham.

South Kesteven District Council has opened a book of condolence to commemorate Margaret Thatcher's life. It can be signed during office hours in the Civic Area at the Council offices in Grantham from 9am on Tuesday. The flag at the council's offices in St Peter's Hill is flying at half mast.

Baroness Thatcher is Grantham’s most famous daughter and the Council hopes to mark her association with the town by working with local schools and community groups to capture aspects of her life in a time capsule. We are also examining other ways to celebrate Baroness Thatcher’s life which will be considered further after consultation with the family.”
