Teachers' strike closes hundreds of schools

Hundreds of schools are to close tomorrow as teachers strike in a long running row over over pay, pensions and workload. Thousands of pupils are likely to be affected, as members of two teaching unions take part in the walk out. Under the Government's reforms, due to come into effect from this autumn, teachers' pay will be linked to performance in the classroom with schools setting salaries rather than following a national framework. Parents are being advised to contact their local council to find out if their schools are open.
