Two men have been praised by police for saving the life of an 86-year-old man whose car had gone into a North Yorkshire River.
Emergency services were called to the River Nidd in Knaresborough at around 10.35am on Saturday August 6 after the Mercedes car was spotted going into the water from Conyngham Hall's car park.
Two men rushed into the river and managed to rescue the pensioner from the submerged car.
The driver, who is from the Wakefield area, suffered cuts and grazes and was taken to hospital. Emergency services managed to recover the car from the river before it completely sank.
North Yorkshire Police said the 'brave' actions of the men undoubtedly saved the pensioner's life.
