Women across the region join pension protest

Ready for action: Castleford Waspis

Women from across the region will once again join in a protest in London today, against changes to the state pension age for women born in the 1950s.

Members of the Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) say the speed at which the change was introduced to increase the age to 65 in 1995, did not give women the chance to make plans for retirement.

The group does not want the pension age to revert back to 60, but wants a a 'bridging' pension to cover the gap from age 60 until State Pension Age - not means-tested and with compensation for losses for those women who have already reached their SPA.
