Kirklees Superintendent retires after 31 years

Kirklees Superintendent Paul Jeffrey has hung up his uniform following 31 and a half years service.

Jeffrey's father was also a Policeman Credit: West Yorkshire Police

Paul will now be handing over the reins to his son Harry, who joined the Force a year ago has taken on his collar number.

Policing runs in the Jeffery family as his father Harry joined the Force in 1962 as a police dog handler in the Aire Valley. His brother Simon also has 22 years’ service, the majority of which as a dog handler.

I have had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed my service at West Yorkshire Police.

Now it's time for me to hand over the baton to my son Harry who recently joined the West Yorkshire Police in September 2016 at Toller Lane Police station, where I started my career as a fresh face 19-year-old.

I hope he will enjoy his service as much as I have and carry on the proud family tradition.
