Stanley Rangers rugby club is to build a new pitch in memory of 14-year-old Evan Hawksworth.
The young player died after falling ill while playing for the club in Wakefield earlier this month. His funeral will be held next week - with his team mates being asked to wear club or school colours.
The service, at Holy Trinity Church, Rothwelll, next Tuesday, will be followed by a wake at Lofthouse Golf Club. Adults attending the funeral are asked to to wear brightly coloured clothes.
In a statement issued by Stanley Rangers, Evan’s father, Gary, has thanked his family and friends for their 'continued overwhelming support'. He also thanked and acknowledged the 'respect and affection' given to Evan by the wider Rugby League family.
The family have asked for no flowers to be given. Money raised by Evan’s Just Giving site will be donated to Martin House Children’s Hospice; Ward 47, children’s intensive care at Leeds General Infirmary; and to Stanley Rangers to build the pitch in Evan’s name.
