Hull City Council is urging residents and businesses to support Hull’s twinned city of Freetown in Sierra Leone in this time of crisis.

It comes after a major fundraising campaign was launched earlier this week to help the rescue effort in Hull's twin city of Freetown in Sierra Leone.

More than 400 people are now confirmed dead following the floods and mudslides that have taken the lives and homes of so many people.

Council Leader, Councillor Stephen Brady said:

Freetown is experiencing a dire situation and it is important that we come together to support our sister city, as we did during the Ebola crisis.

Deputy Leader of the Council, Councillor Darren Hale said:

The Council is supporting the campaign for funding through the Freetown Society by making a donation to help those who have lost everything. We hope local businesses and the people of the City and region might be able to follow suit.

"We are also talking to Freetown about specific projects we can assist with, to help them rebuild their communities.”
