The former Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Chris Kirkland has been talking about the stress and depression that forced him to walk away from the game.
Kirkland realised the ambitions of thousands of youngsters by playing in the Premier League and representing his country. But in the later stages of his career he was battling crippling anxiety.
The 36 year old believes many more players suffer from similar mental health problems, and is now working with the Professional Footballers Association to highlight the scale of the problem.
