Police in Hull have arrested 24 people as part of an investigation into 'cuckooing' by drugs gangs.

The practice involves taking over the homes of vulnerable people - such as drug users, sex workers and people with mental health issues - and using them as a base for drug dealing and other crimes.

The arrests follow a series of raids on the Great Thornton Street estate in the city, which saw £20,000 in cash as well as substances including heroin, cocaine, amphetamine and cannabis seized.

Humberside Police say they are working to help identify and engage with vulnerable people and prevent them from becoming victims of cuckooing.

The people we’ve targeted are suspected of violent crime, drug offences and the exploitation of vulnerable people. Make no mistake, we will not tolerate this and we will act quickly and decisively to tackle offenders and bring those responsible to justice.

– Detective Chief Inspector Jonathan Cross, Humberside Police
