A Lincolnshire woman who killed a motorcyclist while distracted at the wheel making a “hands free” call has been jailed for three years.

Samantha Ayres, 34, from Horncastle, had been on the phone for 27 minutes when she veered onto the wrong side of the road crashing head-on into 26-year-old David Kirk.

The father-of-one from Lincoln died at the scene. Ayres was sentenced at Lincoln Crown Court today after being found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving.

Phone records showed Ayres had made four "hands free" voice calls during her journey and was having a lengthy "in-depth" conversation with a friend in the lead up to the collision.

You were completely on the wrong side of the road...you were so distracted, most probably by the long phone call, that you were not paying proper attention.
