Up to 600 homes in North Yorkshire have been left without gas after a main pipe "collapsed" during routine repair work.
Supplies were lost in Helmsley, Nawton and Beadlam at 4pm yesterday evening.
Northern Gas Networks say engineers are "working hard" to fix the problem.
They asked those unaffected in the area to use their gas "considerately to prevent any further loss of supply".
An incident room has been set up at the Methodist Church in Helmsley, where blankets and hot food are being handed out.
