Campaigners take hospital downgrade challenge to court

Campaigners outside court

Campaigners opposing plans to close the A and E unit at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary have taken their case to the High Court in Leeds.

The Hands Off HRI group hope to get a judicial review of the decision to downgrade the hospital - and move some services to Calderdale.

Today's hearing is the first stage of the legal case and is in effect, a 'permission' hearing where a judge will consider if there is sufficient legal merit to the case for it to proceed to a full judicial review.
