Around 30 protesters gathered outside Doncaster Royal Infirmary this morning, objecting to what they say is 'privatisation through the back door'.

Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Trust board met to discuss creating a separate organisation, owned by the Trust, to run non-clinical services.

They say it could lead to greater income and more flexibility, but the unions say it will allow the trust to opt out of arrangements on staff pay and conditions.

We've had one set up in Barnsley, Airedale and Harrogate and the fears for the trade union is it creates what you call a two tier workforce so in effect you've got new people coming in to the organisation in the new company on inferior terms, and the new staff trooping across on their current terms which creates a two-tier workforce.
