Teachers are on the picket line at Swinton Comprehensive School in Rotherham. It is over the proposed compulsory redundancy of one teacher. Seven other teachers have already changed how they work. The school says they are experiencing a drop in funding due to falling student numbers.
Swinton Community School will be closed to all students today as members of the NUT union strike over the proposed compulsory redundancy of one teacher.
Seven other teachers have already altered their roles, swapping full time for part time work, or taking voluntary redundancy.
The NUT regional secretary Ian Stephenson says it is unfair that teachers are made redundant when a school is in financial difficulty.
The school says that they are experiencing a falling number of students, which means a drop in available funding. Negotiations are ongoing with the teacher in question in the hope of agreeing a suitable alternative role.
