A man has died after his home was engulfed in flames early this morning. The fire is thought to have started in the kitchen of his bungalow in Gawber, near Barnsley. Neighbours were woken by the sound of breaking glass at around 4am and saw thick smoke coming from the bungalow.

Fire investigators say they are not treating a blaze a house on Treelands, in Gawber Barnsley as suspicious. The man that died is understood to be in his early 50s and has not yet been formally identified.

Investigation into fatal house fire
Fire investigation officers are still trying to discover the cause of a blaze that claimed the life of a man in his fifties in Barnsley.
It is thought the fire started in the kitchen of the bungalow in Gawber.
Neighbours were woken at around 4am by the sound of breaking glass. South Yorkshire Fire Service said the property was not fitted with smoke alarms.
