Lorry drivers working for Eddie Stobart have been meeting to finalise plans for a 2 day strike. The men, who formerly worked for Tesco at their distribution centre in Doncaster, say their new employers are putting almost two hundred jobs at risk of redundancy.
The haulage company say the changes to operations at the depot are necessary and the firm will do everything it can to find staff other jobs within the company. But the drivers say the alternatives are unnacceptable, and a 48 hour walkout will go ahead from Tuesday.
Fresh talks are to be held over planned strikes at a Tesco distribution centre in Doncaster that could affect supplies to customers.
More than 180 drivers will strike for 48 hours next week, disrupting supplies across the region. The strike will start on Tuesday and will end on Thursday.
The strike follows an overwhelming vote in favour of industrial action, after the drivers’ new employers, Eddie Stobart Ltd issued 90-days’ notice of termination of employment last month.
