Third man arrested over Maltby murder

South Yorkshire Police have arrested a third man in connection with the murder of Robert Hurdley, 45, which happened in the the Don Jon in Maltby last Sunday.

The latest arrest is a 47 year old man from Maltby. He was arrested on suspicion of assault and public order offences yesterday. He was released on police bail.

Daniel Gerrard, 30, was charged with murder and is due to appear at Sheffield Crown Court next week.

A 35-year-old man, also from Maltby, who was arrested at the weekend for a public order offence has now been released with no further action.

South Yorkshire Police Officers are appealing for anyone who was in the Don Jon pub or nearby pubs on Sunday evening to contact them.

South Yorkshire Police have now named the man who died in an incident in the Don Jon Hotel public house, in Maltby, near Rotherham on the evening of October 14th.

Robert David Hurdley, who was 45 and from Dinnington, was taken to Rotherham District General Hospital after suffering a serious head injury but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. His family have released the following statement:

"Our family have been devastated by the loss of Robert. He was a popular, lively and successful family man and the father of three beautiful young children. He had spent the day coaching the Dinnington Boys Rugby Team and shared that evening having a drink with friends."

"He is deeply loved by us all. I would ask that anyone with information please contact the police."

A 30-year-old Maltby man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and detectives are appealing for anyone who was in the Don Jon pub or nearby pubs on Sunday evening, or anyone with information that may assist to call them on 101. Or alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Second man arrested over Maltby murder

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after man died after a scuffle at a pub in Maltby.

A 45-year-old man died after a fight at the Don Jon Hotel pub. It is believed a number of people were involved in a fight and the victim received a head injury. He was taken to Rotherham District Hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

A 35-year-old man from Maltby was originally arrested on suspicion of murder, but now has been released and is on bail for public order offences.

A 30-year-old Maltby man has now been arrested on suspicion of murder. Investigations are continuing.
