Historic grocer's shop contents snapped up
Around 500 people have turned out at an auction of contents of a centuries old grocer's shop in the Yorkshire Dales. Thompson's general store opened in the village of Osmotherley in 1786 - only closing in 2004 when the last of its owners retired.
Today hundreds of items from the shop were snapped up by those wanting to buy a piece of its history. Raising around £12,000 the sale far exceeded auctioneer's expectations, with tea cannisters fetching £2,000, a Chinese bowl £3,200 - and this large HP sauce bottle £380.
