This was an attack which was clearly pre-mediated and demonstrated a shocking level of violence, sadly resulting in this young man's death. The crime scene we saw as police officers was horrific and I wish to pay tribute to their bravery and dignity in having to try and cope with the impact of this appalling crime.
Two men have been found guilty of murdering 20-year-old Joshua Hirst in Mirfield in August last year.
Joe Church, 21, of Mirfield and Arron Smith, 18, of Emley were found guilty by a jury at Leeds Crown Court today.
A 20-year-old man from Horbury was found not guilty of murder or manslaughter.
Joshua was stabbed on Hepworth Lane on 3rd August and died in hospital a short time later.
Church and Smith are due to be sentenced at Leeds Crown Court next week.
