Now she's a political figure who has always divided opinion, but today it has been confirmed that a statue of Margaret Thatcher is to be put up in her home town of Grantham in Lincolnshire.

The prospect of a statue has split councillors in the town with Labour supporting the idea and the Conservatives against it fearing it could be vandalised. But today Grantham Museum has confirmed plans to raise money to pay for it to be built. Kate Hemingway reports:

Grantham Museum has announced plans to create a statue of Margaret Thatcher to be displayed inside its premises.

The museum wants to raise £200,000 in total - for a statue and to refurbish and improve exhibits inside the museum.

The museum says it now plans to approach the Thatcher family for approval.
