York Blitz anniversary

A hurricane fighter plane will be in York to mark the bravery of a french pilot who prevented an explosion in the city 71 years ago.

It is seventy one years since 95 men, women and children died when the city of York was bombed during the Second World War. 9500 houses and other buildings including the Guildhall were destroyed during the Baedeker Raid by the German Luftwaffe.
