If the thought of doing one marathon makes you shudder, imagine doing seven in just seven days might be like. That is the challenge facing two runners from the same office in Leeds who have set off on a challenge that will take them all the way to London. James Webster reports:
All the money raised by Chris and Neil in their marathon challenge will be donated to Cancer Research UK. Spokesperson Teresa Hicks says the runners are incredible and has been explaining how the money they bring in will be spent:
Bupa is backing its staff who have set out on a seven marathons in seven days challenge after being impressed with their ambition to raise money for cancer research. Chief Executive Stuart Fletcher says they have supported Chris and Neil with time off to prepare and undertake the challenge.
For the first 10K of the runners' challenge they were accompanied by dozens of colleagues from their office in Weetwood who stayed with them all the way to the Royal Armouries in South Leeds. Neil Jones and Chris Lawrence will carry on to London over the next seven days averaging a marathon a day.
Two runners who have just set off from Leeds to London, doing the equivalent of a marathon a day, say they were inspired to take on the challenge by their own connections with cancer.
Neil Jones' step-mother died from the disease and his mother is now fighting it. Chris Lawrence's best friend also lost his battle with cancer. They are both now determined to raise as much money as possible to help fund the work to find a cure for the disease.
Two runners have set out from their office in Leeds at the start of a challenge to run the equivalent of seven marathons in seven days. Neil Jones and Chris Lawrence were joined by colleagues for the first leg of their journey from their office in Weetwood on their way to the Royal Armouries.
