Stroke services are to be suspended at Grimsby's Diana Princess of Wales hospital. NHS bosses say the decision has been made as part of ongoing work to improve the care offered to patients.
The trust was recently asked to conduct a review of stroke services at the hospital and have made the decision to consolidate the service and run it from the Scunthorpe General Hospital stroke unit.
Hyper-acute and acute services are being suspended.
Jargon explained -
Hyper-acute is where a patient needs constant care, within the first 24 hours of being admitted to hospital. Acute is where a patient remains in hospital, on a ward, but is not well enough to leave.
