Four in court over Scarborough murder

Four people have appeared in court charged in connection with the murder of a Scarborough man.

41-year-old Johnathan Binns died shortly after police were called out a house on Eastborough last Wednesday.

Two men, aged 34 and 29, have been charged with murder and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Two other men, both aged 30, have also been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.

They've all been remanded into custody.

Detectives investigating the death of a man in Scarborough have charged two men with murder.

Officers have also named the victim as 41-year-old local man John Binns, who was killed at a flat on Eastborough on Wednesday.

The men, aged 34 and 29, have been charged with murder and conspiracy to commit robbery. Two other men, both aged 30, have been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery. One of the men also faces a charge of assisting an offender.

All four men have been remanded in police custody and will appear at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

Detective appeals for witnesses to Scarborough murder

The officer leading an investigation into the death of a man in Scarborough has asked anyone who saw four men in the area on Wednesday evening.

"If you were in the Eastborough area between 9.30pm and midnight on Wednesday 7 August, I urge you to come forward and contact Scarborough CID straight away as you may have vital information that could help our enquiries.

“I am particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a group of four men as they left the scene, one of who was wearing a pair of light coloured tracksuit bottoms. It is possible that they dispersed and made their way individually towards Queen’s Terrace, between 11.30pm and 11.45pm."

Scarborough murder: more details released

The murder of a man in a flat in Scarborough was reported to North Yorkshire Police by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, who had attended the scene of a serious assault in Eastborough, at 11.40pm last night.

Despite the efforts of paramedics the man, is his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Four men were arrested a short time later at an address on Queen’s Terrace, Scarborough. They are currently in police custody for questioning.

No-one else is being sought in connection with the incident.

An area of Eastborough has been closed off to allow for police enquiries.

“I would like to reassure people this is an isolated incident which is not linked to any previous assaults in the area. All of the individuals connected to this tragic incident have been identified and four local men have been arrested.

“Officers are undertaking high visibility patrols in the area while enquiries continue. This is to provide extra reassurance to the local community who are naturally concerned by what has happened.”

North Yorkshire Police said four men had been arrested in connection with the inquiry.

Eastborough is currently closed and is expected to remain closed while investigations are underway.
