The 15th year of the Pride of Britain awards is being marked by a gala ceremony in London tonight - hosted by broadcaster and presenter Carol Vorderman. Among the nominees is Yorkshire's Francine Levin.
It's the night when Britain honours its unsung heroes. A star-studded ceremony in London when inspirational stories of bravery, courage and sacrifice take centre stage.
For one night only at the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain awards all the applause is for ordinary people doing extraordinary things. They're the stars - and the celebrities take a back seat. And it was a very special night for one of our region's veteran fundraisers. Daniel Harris was there.
Jean Bishop from Hull, who dresses as a bee to raise cash for Age Concern, and was named Fundraiser of the Year at the Pride of Britain awards joined other Unsung Heroes at Downing Street this morning.
91-year-old Jean has become well known in the region and has raised more than £90,000.
ITV News presenter Mark Austin has presented Hillsborough campaigner Margaret Aspinall with a special Pride of Britain award in recognition of her 25-year fight for justice for her family and the families of those who died in the Hillsborough disaster.
Coming on stage to a standing ovation along with Kenny Daglish, John Bishop, Jamie Carragher and John Barnes, she said her award was about the pride of Merseyside and thanked the people of Liverpool for supporting the families during their long search for the truth.
