Dramatic footage of a plane being landed, by a man who'd never before taken the controls of an aircraft, has been released by the RAF. John Wildey landed the light aircraft at Humberside Airport last week after the pilot collapsed at the controls, and later died.
Today footage from an RAF Leconfield helicopter shows the astonishing touchdown, after Mr Wildey was guided in by a flight instructor and air traffic controllers. Sally Simpson reports.
A passenger in a light aircraft who had to take controls of the plane after the pilot collapsed has tonight been telling Calendar how he managed to land it safely.
John Wildey, who's 77 and from Doncaster,, had never flown a plane before, but he made a perfect landing after being talked down by instructors. The pilot has since sadly died. But Mr Wildey has been hailed a hero for staying calm and for averting any more loss of life. James Webster reports.

When John Wildey was told the flight instructor that guided him down said he would make a good pilot, he told ITV News, "I doubt it, I was sat there as white as a sheet".
"It's very nice of him to say so but I was terrified to be honest," he continued.
"I'd love to go up again," Mr Wildey said, laughing, "I have got a free lesson from a friend down South that I was supposed to have done two, three weeks ago, but the cloud was down".

Roy Murray said he was surprised just how calm the man he knew only as John wasas he brought the aircraft down at the airport, near Grimsby, on Tuesday night.
