Wortley shooting - more arrests

Detectives investigating the murder of a man in a shooting in Wortley have made two more arrests.

A 21-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were arrested in London last night and have been brought back to West Yorkshire for questioning in connection with the murder of Pawel Jarek Matras.

The 21-year-old was shot and fatally wounded at a house in Blue Hill Crescent on November 11.

A 22-year-old man who was arrested on Tuesday night on suspicion of murder remains in custody.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for anyone with any information that could assist the investigation to contact them via the non-emergency number 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Police confirm man shot dead in Leeds was Polish

Detectives investigating a double shooting in Leeds, which left one man dead, have confirmed the 21-year-old victim was a Polish national living in the city.

Another man, aged 31, remains in hospital in a stable condition suffering injuries to his lower body caused by gun shot wounds.

The shooting happened around 5.30pm yesterday at Blue Hill Crescent in Wortley. Detectives believe the men were shot inside the address after the gunmen arrives and entered the house.

The investigation of this murder is a top priority for West Yorkshire Police and I want to reassure residents that all necessary resources are being deployed to locate those responsible. We are working to build up a picture of what took place and are conducting a wide range of specialist enquiries including painstaking forensic search of the murder scene. We believe this was a targeted attack and not a random attack. Incident of this sort are very unusual for the Wortley area. We have a number of reassurance patrols ongoing by Neighbourhood Policing Officers.

The scene of a fatal shooting in Leeds remains cordoned off this morning as police continue their investigations. They were called to a house on Blue Hill Crescent in the Wortley area yesterday evening following reports of a shooting.

Two men were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds. One, aged 21, died a short time later. The second man, aged 31, is being treated for serious injuries to his lower body.
